Rosa Parks Biography

Rosa Parks- Early Life
Rosa Parks was born on Tuskegee , Alabama on February 4, 1913.  She grew up with racism all around her.  When she was young she recalls the Ku Klux Klan marching down the street in front of her house.  She says her father had to guard the door with a shotgun.  Her whole life she had to deal with racism, some say that is the reason she stood up in the bus.
-Midlife
The day of the incodent on the bus was December 1, 1955.  She was tired and fresh out of work.  She was sitting in the "colored" seats directly behind the whites only section.  The law in the 1955 said that if there was a white person in need of a seat then an African American would have to give up their seat to provide for the white person.  This was the case when Rosa was asked to move.  She said no. The man that asked her to move was extremely mad.  He told the bus driver and the bus driver reported her to the police.  She was later arrested.  This was the spark of one of the largest civil rights movements ever.
-Late Life
She was a receptionist for a congressional office in Detroit. She held this position until she retired in 1988.  She died in October 25, 2005 at the age of 92.
